The night itself

The room was built to keep salt dry, which is the accident that makes it sound the way it does — stone walls, a barrel ceiling, and nothing soft to swallow the strings. Ninety chairs are set in a ring on the floor. There is no stage and no amplification, so where you sit changes what you hear.
